BIOGRAPHY
Meet Bobbi-Jo Starr (Kisikaw Iskwew – Daylight Woman) An Indigenous singer-songwriter from the Cree community of Peerless Trout First Nation, located in Treaty 8 Territory in Northern Alberta. She is the proud daughter of Robert Chalifoux from Valleyview, Ab, and Helen Starr in Peerless Lake AB.
“Music has always been apart of the family, I get my musical talents from my dad, Robert Chalifoux. I have early memories of him playing in band when I was small. My dad gave me my first guitar when I was 12, but I didn’t start songwriting after I went though some life things and entered recovery. I rediscovered so much more about myself and my connection to the world and all my relations.”
"Music is energy and how I choose to connect with the audience and the natural world, to manifest the changes I see for myself and my community. Through music, I am truly able to step into myself, as Kisikaw Iskwew, and share the Indigenous teachings, I learned about water, vision and recovery."
